Learn About Our History
Since 2009, Distort Music Tuition has become an important part of the local community of Ossett, Horbury and the surrounding area. We’ve spent 15 years providing professional music lessons to children, teenagers and adults while also putting on regular student concerts and raising money for charities.
Some students have arrived with the goal of learning a few chords for fun while others have chased their dream to become professional musicians. We’ve helped students participate in examinations, achieve qualifications and even find work in the music industry. But we’ve also helped more mature students develop their skills and form jam bands with other local, like-minded people.
Our yearly student concert gives us the opportunity to bring all our students and their families together to celebrate music and raise money for charity. The event gives students of all ages a chance to enjoy the fruits of their labour and jam in a band to an audience of family and friends.
Established in 2009 – 10 Years in the Local Community
Distort Music Tuition was established back in 2009 by professional session musician Chris Aspin. Chris has always tended to a roster of guitar and bass students between gigs and studio work. Eventually, student numbers grew to the point where he needed other professional tutors to share the load, which led him to to scoure the area for the best tutors around.
It’s important to note that not all great musicians make good music tutors and Chris wanted to make sure that his tutors would have the right mix of skills to provide the best tuition possible. Tutors with formal music qualifications and great people skills can communicate their knowledge with their students in a more accessable way and Chris was eager for them to make the lessons fun as well as educational.
Each lesson at Distort is tailored to the student’s individual age, aspirations, musical tastes, and ability. Our aim at Distort Music Tuition is simple, to provide the most professional, exciting and affordable lessons possible for the local people of Ossett and the surrounding area.
